All my life I have used a plain wooden rolling pin. It was perfectly serviceable, but one year I wanted to buy a rolling pin as part of a theme gift, and my eye was caught by the Kitchenaid pin.It was a little price-y, so I actually bought it at my local Target and "thought about it". The more I looked at it, the more I liked it, but then I had another problem...shipping! This thing is heavy, and would cost me a fortune to ship! So I consulted my trusty Amazon site, and found I could easily get free shipping - game on!Still, I had decided the one I had on hand should probably go back, just because it seemed extravagant, just for me.Oddly enough, the thing disappeared in all the Christmas rush around our house, and only made a reappearance as a gift to me, from my Husband!I have to say, I love this thing. It has never been easier to roll out the dough for my homemade noodles, which always resisted my wooden rolling pin. Sometimes the dough would even roll right back, but with this pin, the dough behaves itself perfectly. It resists sticking better, and what little does stick is easily wiped off.My favorite feature is that the handles really keep your hands above the dough, no accidental ripping.However, the weight means you will want to be careful with it, and the nonstick surface means you will need to protect it from sharp items; no throwing it in the drawer! It is attractive enough to look very nice hanging from its own special hook on the wall.I have to say, having the right instrument for the right job applies to kitchen tools just as much as anything else, and this rolling pin was well worth it.
