I bake a lot - pies, biscuits, various pastries - and I have my original pastry cloth and rolling pin cover. My cloth IS "heavy weight". It had edges that were sewn like a well constructed garment with folded over edges, pressed and folded again, then stitched. The fabric was heavy cotton, perhaps like a canvas, but very soft now after years of use. I hate to give it up but it has holes worn in it and I cannot deny its "last days" any longer. So I've been looking for its replacement. I bought some canvas yardage to make my own but it is very stiff, even after washing. The range and quality of fabrics available to the general public in the U.S. has gotten very poor, indeed. So I came to the internet and Amazon to find a replacement pastry cloth and rolling pin cover. The words "heavy weight" and the rest of the description of this product captured my attention and my hope. When my order arrived, I washed the cloth and cover before using it for food preparation. I washed it like I would fine lingerie or fine linens: VERY carefully and with appropriate temperature, soap, etc., then air drying it. I washed it in a mesh lingerie bag, in cool water, short cycle, all VERY gentle. The result? The edge stitching came undone and the pastry cloth has started to unravel - without even ONE use!! My original pastry cloth has been through YEARS and YEARS of heavy usage and washing - and not gentle washing for that wonderful workhorse!! It has only just recently developed holes from use,but the seams and edges are like new! THIS product that I'm reviewing here is not of good quality and certainly not "heavy weight". VERY disappointed.

Is heavyweight pastry cloth but certainly not heavy duty, first time I washed it,one corner "blew out" and part of the side hem came undone. Made in USA and I was sorely disappointed.

My husband & I are both fond of pies and tarts and I enjoy making them but for rolling out the dough. It seems to want to stick to everything especially in warm weather and I'm left frustrated with jagged and irregular pieces of dough instead of the perfect circles I'm aiming for.After just a few days with the R & M pastry cloth, I've managed to roll out the top and bottom crusts for over a dozen mini pies and it was virtually effortless. Just make sure that the pastry cloth and the rolling pin cover are generously floured during the procedure and you should be able to roll out your pastry dough as thin as you like with no fear of sticking and having to scrape the stuck-on mess off your work surface, as has happened to me so many times in the past.After the cloth and cover have been used a few times, it's a good idea to hand wash them with a little dish soap, rinse and air dry them. I've also heard that, once dry, you can put them in a plastic bag and store them in your freezer for future use. The cloth is nicely made of heavy fabric and the results it produces make it well worth the small investment.
