I purchased this rolling pin as a Christmas gift for my brother who cooks a lot. He's the kind of guy who goes out and buys whatever he needs so many times it is hard to think of a gift that is something he doesn't already have. Anyway, recently I was at his house and he was making homemade pizza and was using a drinking glass to roll out the dough, so I thought a rolling pin would make a great gift. I measured the rolling pin that I already own and it was 18" so I wanted to get one at least that big. I chose one from Amazon and ordered it. It arrived quickly and I was impressed and surprised. The 18" measurement refers to the rolling part - not the handle part. It feels nice and solid and rolls smoothly and I think it is a quality product. I would definitely recommend it if your brother uses a drinking glass. I hope he does not see this before Christmas.

I would not buy this rolling pin again. It is heavy. It is long. Both of those are great characteristics when you're making larger amounts of pastry. However, the internal bearings feel cheap - they don't roll completely smoothly. The worst aspect of the pin is that the wood is coarse-grained and not smooth. I kept having to pick splinters out of puff pastry dough, not exactly the result I was hoping for! I finally sanded the silly thing, but the wood is just too large-grained and it didn't help that much. I'm giving this thing to Good Will - and feeling a bit guilty about it. I recommend strongly that you try another rolling pin.
