This Springerle rolling pin works okay but leaves a little to be desired.1) The 2 pieces (handles/middle piece and the etched, outer piece) don't roll together as smoothly as I would like. It seems to 'catch' a little while you're trying to stamp the designs on the dough. With a normal rolling pin, this doesn't matter. With this pin, you need to keep the designs lined up so they look okay when you cut them out. I had to end up holding (and pushing down slightly) the pin by the middle while I was rolling it.2) The designs are a little crudely carved but they look okay once they're stamped/baked. It would be nice if the designs were a little more detailed or easier to distinguish what they were supposed to be - they're rather abstract and they're not all quite as 'unique' as I would like.3) It would be nice if the outside had some sort of finish or smoothness - it's a very bare wood on the rolling pin. I worry how it will wear and hold up in the future.Overall an okay product. As good as most others for sale on Amazon.

The patternson this rolling pin were not what I expected. I guess I should have read the reviews before ordering. My kids will have fun with it, but I'll be geting a different pin next year

This item is going to need some sandpaper to smooth off the rough edges as it looks machine carved. The carvings are a bit modern verses the more rounded patterns our family has had in the past. It is of good size compared to the others I have seen-- five pattterns per row. Some food safe oil will be needed before the first use to seal the raw wood. Once the springerlies are rolled and sit overnight before baking, the results from your oven will bring back memories of very hard good "dunkin' " treats.
