Its a nice rolling pin however it is made in either Taiwan or Malaysia (not the US or France). The wood is called "rubberwood". I know this because I called the company b4 buying. The rubberwood trees are harvested for their latex each year, but by the time they get to around 30 years old, latex yields decrease to the point that it's not commercially viable to tap the tree anymore. They used to burn these trees down but instead today it is being used in furniture. This is an environmentally sound wood which is strong, flexible, resistant to fungus, bacteria and mold so thats why I bought it.
